3.7. Daily Salutations⁑
Every day, one should recite three short khairetismoi “salutations” (sing. khairetismos). As opposed to other prayers recited daily which are focused on the Godhead in praise, adoration, and thanks, these salutations are instead given to other entities for their roles in our lives: the Sun as the immediate source of all life in the world, one’s Agathē Tykhē as the presiding spiritual entity of one’s life in the world, and one’s Agathos Daimōn as the guardian and companion of one’s soul and mind.
3.7.1. Khairetismos of the Rising Sun⁑
Every day, at the first available opportunity after one has arisen from bed and washed oneself appropriately, one should greet the rising Sun and seek its blessings. This may be done before or after one’s Leitūrgia or other work, so long as the Sun is rising above the horizon; this salutation is not to be done if the Sun has not yet risen or if the Sun is already descending from his noontime height. Being indoors or outdoors, weather conditions, or true visibility of the Sun is not otherwise required, although it is preferable to have the Sun in view and shining upon oneself as one salutes the Sun.
Facing the Sun (or, if the Sun is not visible, the east), recite (with the part in parentheses only if the Sun cannot be seen due to inclement weather):
Hail to you, Lord Sun, hail to you!O bright shining Hēlios, Sol Invictus!O all-conquering, unconquerable Lord Sun,o all-subduing, unsubduable Lord Sun!O Spirit of the Cosmos, Power of the Cosmos, Light of the Cosmos,o immortal craftsman of the immortal fire that creates and sustains all life in the Cosmos,o Father of Sky, Father of Sea, Father of Earth! We greet you this day, we who are your children, the children of starry Heaven and fertile Earth! As you rise from the dark depths of Night into the bright heights of Day,you conquer and vanquish and eliminate all darkness from the world, filling the whole of the world with your light! We praise you, we honor you, we glorify you, we salute you,we who look up to you!(Yea, though you might be obscured by rain or shadow or cloud, always do we know your presence in the world, for it is your presence that allows for our own!)We ask you for your blessing, Lord Sun, we who are your children, the children of starry Heaven and fertile Earth!Grant us your Spirit that we might live, your Light that we might see, your Power that we might work, and your Fire to fuel and temper the flames of want and will in our own hearts!Hail to you, Lord Sun, hail to you, this and every day of all creation!Hail to you, Lord Sun, hail to you!ĒI IEŪ AKHEBUKRŌMĒI IEŪ ABRASAKSĒI IEŪ SEMESEILAMĒI IEŪ MARMARAUŌTHKHAIRE HĒLIE PANTOKRATORPSOI PHNŪTHI NINTHĒRI I I I I I
The meaning of the last part of the salutation:
Hail, o Flame and Radiance of the Sun!Hail, o Lord of the Turning of the Year!Hail, o Beautiful Light, Eternal Sun!Hail, o Lord of Lights, Lord of Lords!Hail, o All-Ruling Sun,the Agathodaimōn, the god of the gods!
For the last part of the salutation, one may close their eyes for a simple visualization:
ĒI IEŪ AKHEBUKRŌM: Visualize the solar disc in the form of the modern astrological glyph for the Sun, a dotted circle), and a single ray of pure sunlight descending from the Sun and connecting it to you.
ĒI IEŪ ABRASAKS: The ray of Akhebukrōm that connects you to the Sun swings wide in a vast arc, joining to itself in a complete circle, like the orbit of the Earth around the Sun that takes 365 days (the enumeration of the name ABRASAKS) to complete.
ĒI IEŪ SEMESEILAM: The circle of Abrasaks expands and grows to an immense, infinite sphere, not just becoming a circle of the solar system but a circle of the endless and unbounded cosmos itself, with all the cosmos itself becoming its center. This is the very same sphere described in the statement that “God is an infinite sphere whose center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere”.
ĒI IEŪ MARMARAUŌTH: The sphere of Semeseilam becomes filled with a pure light; just as the ray of Akhebukrōm connected you and the Earth to the solar disc itself, the light of Marmarauōth joins all things indiscriminately together, linking finitude to infinity, boundary with center, into the purest divine Light of God itself.
KHAIRE HĒLIE PANTOKRATOR / PSOI PHNŪTHI NINTHĒR / I I I I I I: Dwelling in such light that the Sun shines endlessly to all the cosmos from the very divine Source of all Light itself, let yourself be permeated with the light such that you become dissolved within it, joining your own praise of the Sun to the cosmic praise sung constantly and silently itself, letting your praise become identical with the light itself that reaches, covers, surrounds, supports, and fills all things.
3.7.2. Khairetismos of the Agathē Tykhē⁑
It is encouraged to offer a daily salutation, and if possible a simple shared libation, with the Agathē Tykhē so as to develop and maintain one’s relationship with them and to seek their blessing and help in better living one’s life, understanding one’s fate, and developing one’s skill in living their life according to their fate. The ideal time for doing so is immediately upon rising and after washing one’s face and brushing one’s teeth in the morning, prior to any meditation or prayers or ritual work. If the Leitūrgia is made twice or more on a given day, the salutation to the Agathē Tykhē should occur before the first one; if it is only done once but in the evening, the salutation should be made in the morning even if other prayers are not said. If the salutation is done prior to prayers that are done on one’s own, such a salutation should be made aloud; if in a group, it should be made silently, and every person present should have their own cup to make their own separate libation with the prayer leader using the loibeion on the bōmos itself (if one is present). However, when in a group, it is instead preferred for everyone to make their own salutation separately and individually beforehand, and then join afterwards for prayer.
Having a loibeion is strongly recommended for making libations to the Agathē Tykhe rather than using another vessel. If a libation is to be made to the Agathē Tykhē, as with any other libation made at a bōmos with a loibeion, the lid is to be removed from the loibeion and is put down respectfully to the side of the bōmos. Regardless whether a loibeion is used, dip the forefinger of the dominant hand into one’s cup of water and flick it upwards above the head, reciting:
An offering of water to the Heavens from whence I come.
Then dip the forefinger of the dominant hand into the water and flick it downward (even onto the psiathios if present), reciting:
An offering of water to the earth from whence I am born.
Afterwards, the salutation may be made to the Agathē Tykhē. The specific wording of it is left up to each person according to their relationship with their Agathē Tykhē, but a general salutation may be made accordingly:
Note
Where indicated by “AA.”, use the name of the Agathē Tykhē if known or “my Agathē Tykhē” if not known. If the name is not known then the line in parentheses is to be omitted.
Hail to you, holy AA., o my natal genius, o my perfect nature,o spirit of my destiny, o idea of my incarnation,o you into whose lap I have fallen, o you whose ward I have become!(You who have become for me my Agathē Tykhē!)I greet you this day, I who am NN.,and as I rise to take on this day, AA.,so too stand tall for me that I might stand tall myself!O AA., you who are in complete knowledge of my fate, teach me the ways and means of my fate and my life and my destiny, enlighten my paths, illumine my destinations, and help meso that I may come to go where I must go, know what I must know,do what I must do, and become what I must be!O AA., you who are in complete command of my fate, wash off from me every evil fate, transmute every evil thing into good, and let the good flourish in abundance in my life for goodso that I may come to know, enjoy, and have the causes ofgood health, long life, prosperity, happiness, freedom, fortune, ease, safety, stability, and peace!O AA., you who are the source of my intelligence, wisdom, and knowledge, make me intelligent, make me wise, and make me knowledgeableso that I may come to be competent, capable, and dignifiedin all studies, sciences, skills, crafts, works, and arts of my life and of the world, here and all places, now and all times, today and all days!O AA., you who are my perfect nature, perfect my nature, and help me to fill my lifewith everything that is good, all that is good, and only that which is good,so that you yourself may be fulfilled in your work for me and with me!Hail to you, holy AA.!
If a libation is to be made, take the cup, dip the fingertips in the cup, sprinkle them onto the bōmos, and recite:
As I make this offering of water to you, fresh, cool, and clean, that it may cheer you, sate you, and refresh you…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and wipe the hands front and back, and recite:
So too with this water clean my hands for clear work…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and sprinkle water onto the forehead and temples, and recite:
Clean my head for clear thinking…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and sprinkle water onto the eyes, ears, nostrils, and closed mouth, and recite:
Clean my senses for clear perception…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and sprinkle water into the open mouth, letting out a sharp exhale afterwards, and recite:
Clean my mouth for clear speech…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and sprinkle water onto the feet, and recite:
Clean my feet for clear travels…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and wipe the chest, and recite:
And clean my heart for clear living.
Lift the cup up and recite:
And so AA., let us share this offering of water as one, me with you and you with me as one. Join yourself to me that I may join myself to you as one in One, all the days of this life together! Hail to you, holy AA.!
Breathe in slowly, then breathe out slowly on a long full exhale. Bring the cup to the lips and sip a small amount from it, taking care to not drain the cup. Raise the cup once more, then bring it back down; if the leader of a group and a loibeion was used, put it back on the bōmos, and if a libation is not also being made to the Agathos Daimōn immediately after, put the lid back on the loibeion.
3.7.3. Khairetismos of the Agathos Daimōn⁑
As with the Agathē Tykhē, it is likewise encouraged to offer a daily salutation, and if possible a simple shared libation, with the Agathos Daimōn so as to develop and maintain one’s relationship with them and to seek their blessing and help in better living one’s providence, understanding one’s divine purpose, and joining them to divinity and knowledge in holiness. All the same considerations apply as with the salutation and libation to the Agathē Tykhē above, except that if one makes an salutation and libation to both the Agathē Tykhē and Agathos Daimōn, the salutation and libation to the Agathos Daimōn should be made immediately after that to the Agathē Tykhē.
Like with the Agathē Tykhē, having a loibeion is strongly encouraged for making libations to the Agathos Daimōn rather than using another vessel. If a libation is to be made to the Agathos Daimōn and one was not already made to the Agathē Tykhē, then as with any other libation made at a bōmos with a loibeion, the lid is to be removed from the loibeion and is put down respectfully to the side of the bōmos. Regardless whether a loibeion is used, dip the forefinger of the dominant hand into one’s cup of water and flick it upwards above the head, reciting:
An offering of water to the Heavens from whence I come.
Then dip the forefinger of the dominant hand into the water and flick it downward (even onto the psiathos if present), reciting:
An offering of water to the earth from whence I am born.
Afterwards, the salutation may be made to the Agathos Daimōn. The specific wording of it is left up to each person according to their relationship with their Agathos Daimōn, but a general salutation may be made accordingly:
Note
Where indicated by “AA.”, use the name of the Agathos Daimōn if known or “my Agathos Daimōn” if not known. If the name is not known then the line in parentheses is to be omitted.
Hail to you, o AA.!O AA., o my holy guardian angel, o my supernatural assistant, o my paredros!(O you who are my Agathos Daimōn!)O never-born companion and consort of this soul and mind who calls out to you,you who are with me always and everywhere!O AA., you who are for me divinity,o source of my divinity and my source of divinity,o connection to my divinity and my connection to divinity,o guide to my divinity and my guide to divinity, you who make me divine!O AA., be with me, guide me, guard me, enlighten me, empower me,support me, strengthen me, protect me, defend me, exalt me!O AA., you who are for me Providence, you who know the will of God for me in my life, help me to understand and comprehend the fullness of my own true will,so that all that transpires in my life may transpire in accordance with my own true will,so that all that I do in my life be done in service of my own true will!O AA., be with me, and join yourself to me that I may join myself to you as one in One!As I open up my heart and my mind to you, take my hands into yours, embrace me with your arms, cover me with your wings, tilt my head up that I may gaze into your eyes through which I may see heaven, and put your lips upon mine and breathe into me your breaththat the whole of my being may be sanctified and filled with your spirit!
Breathe in slowly, then breathe out slowly on a long full exhale.
Hail to you, holy AA.!
If a libation is to be made, take the cup, dip the fingertips in the cup, sprinkle them onto the bōmos, and recite:
As I make this offering of water to you, fresh, cool, and clean…
Dip the fingertips in the cup, and wipe a line of water from the top of the forehead down towards the navel, and recite:
So too wash me in body, soul, spirit, and mind that I may be made ready, fit, meet, and pure for the work of divinity and for you.
Lift the cup up and recite:
And so AA., let us share this offering of water as one, me with you and you with me as one. Join yourself to me that I may join myself to you as one in One! Hail to you, holy AA.!
Breathe in slowly, then breathe out slowly on a long full exhale. Bring the cup to the lips and sip a small amount from it, taking care to not drain the cup. Raise the cup once more, then bring it back down; if the leader of a group and a loibeion was used, put it back on the bōmos and put the lid back on the loibeion.
